DIY Care and Maintenance

CLEANING

With both Slate and Sandstone you will be amazed at how little you have to mop the floor. To clean we recommend using Slate Shampoo, mild soapy water or just plain water. Do not use chemical cleaners as these can leave a build up of residue on the floor.

RESEALING

Ensure the floor is clean, you don’t want to seal in anything left on the floor. We recommend cleaning using Heavy Duty Cleaner, then mop with just water and leave to ensure your floor is completely dry before applying any sealer. Please note there is no need to strip off any existing seal. Should you have a large area to seal then this can be carried out in stages and does not have to be finished in one go. Use a large brush to either complete the whole process or to use around the edge of the floor followed by a lambswool applicator through the middle.

Leave approximately 3 to 4 hours to dry before walking depending on the weather and 24 hours before moving furniture. There is no need to discard your brush once your sealing process is complete. Simply save the brush for the next time you seal and leave the clogged brush to stand in your seal until soft again. Alternatively you can purchase our solvent to clean the brush. We recommend resealing approximately every 2 to 5 years depending on the wear and tear and traffic across your floor. All products required to complete this process are available from our showroom.

Please note it is advisable to apply a small amount of sealer in an inconspicuous area to check the compatibility with the existing seal on the floor.

You will be amazed at how this simple process restores your floor to look as good as the day it was laid covering any scratches or marks.
